Ministry Team

Team Vicar - Rev'd John Madinda

I was ordained in 2000. Following my ordination I taught at St Philip’s Theological College in Tanzania where I was college principal.  I joined the Long Stratton and Pilgrim Team in 2015 as Team Vicar and have enjoyed parish life in a rural and multi-parish benefice.

My wife Marleen and I have two grown up children Cornelie and Ruel. I like anything relating to Ministry and Theology and anything to do with nature, but above all I like sharing the Good News about Jesus my Saviour.

Retired priest with permission to officiate - Rev'd Elisabeth Spry

I was ordained in 2006 as an OLM, originally in the Long Stratton and Wacton benefice, and retired in 2017. I have lived in Long Stratton since 1976, and worked as a Librarian in Norwich until 2007. I am also Tower Captain at St Mary's Church, Bellringing being one of my interests. Other interests include line dancing, swimming, reading, and enjoying the countryside.

Readers

Margaret Smith

I grew up in Lincolnshire but have lived for 45 years in Norfolk, mostly in this area.

My mother, grandmother and great grandparents came from Bunwell, so I have some strong links to these villages. I am widowed, with three adult children, and three small grandchildren, who are a source of great delight.

I was licensed as an LLM/Reader in 2016, and in my spare time enjoy gardening and entertaining.

Angie Baldwin

My name is Angie Baldwin. I've lived in Wacton for two years and love it, and have been a Reader for eight years.

I moved from living on my narrowboat on the Chesterfield Canal where I became a Waterways Chaplain, a role I now continue on the Broads.

I have two spaniels, one of whom is blind and we share our home with my father. I enjoy walking, reading, art, patchwork and I'm trying to get to grips with gardening.

During my life I've been a Radiographer, a smallholder and a School Librarian. I have three children, five grandchildren and three grandpuppies.

Retired reader with permission to officiate - Margaret Thorburn

I am a retired primary school teacher with a brilliant family who are constantly in touch and often visit.  Although I have several interests, that of Village History rises to the top.

What has been called “the ministry of the teapot “ means there's often a number of mugs to deal with at the end of the afternoon and, especially at this time of the year, the conversation will have got round to the preservation of old apple varieties.

I value friendship greatly and have a few friends left who have been alongside me since we left college in 1950.
